Texas Drought; Standoff Ends Ivory Coast

Spring cotton plantings are underway in the United States with about 10% of the crop now in the ground. Texas has had extremely dry weather since October with rainfall levels the lowest in decades and this is already starting to worry farmers, particularly in the dry land areas. Texas now accounts for such as large portion of total US cotton output clearly there is cause for concern if the rains don’t start soon. The US cotton planting intentions report actually showed a smaller increase in acreage than anticipated, but with favorable weather, the crop is still expected to be sizeable and more than likely exceed demand, which should wane and help to rebuild stocks after potentially dropping to record lows this season.
