Bearish "Island Top Reversal" in June Live Cattle

E-Mini Russell commodity market neutral positive extrieme.

June live cattle futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Tuesday gapped lower on the daily bar chart and hit a fresh three-week low of $114.95 a hundredweight. Combined with a gap-higher price move on March 25, Tuesday's downside price gap produced a bearish "island top" reversal pattern on the daily bar chart, which is an early technical clue that a market top is now in place. Since scoring a contract high of $121.50 on April 1, June live cattle futures prices have declined around $6.00 and the bulls have faded. To regain some fresh upside near-term technical momentum the cattle market bulls would have to push June futures prices back above stiff chart resistance at $117.55. A drop in June live cattle futures prices below solid technical support at the $114.00 price level would provide the bears with better downside technical momentum and would more strongly suggest a market top is indeed in place in the cattle market. Near-term technical resistance for June live cattle futures is located at Tuesday's high of $116.30, at $116.75, at $117.00 and then at $117.55. Near-term technical support is located at Tuesday's low of $114.95, at $114.50 and then at $114.00. Stay tuned! Jim Wyckoff
