Commodity Market Bulls Looking for More Success in 2011

by Jim Wyckoff

The year 2010 has been a very good year for commodity market bulls. Gold, feeder cattle and cotton futures all hit all-time record highs in 2010. Silver and sugar futures hit 30-year highs, coffee scored a fresh 13-year highs and many other markets are at two-year highs. The Continuous Commodity Index (CCI) this week notched a fresh all-time high. The CCI is a basket of 17 major raw commodity futures prices rolled into one composite price index. It's an excellent gauge for the overall price trend in the commodity market sector. The CCI is presently in a strong two-year-old uptrend on the weekly chart. The strong price uptrend in the CCI and the fact the index just pushed above strong technical resistance at the previous all-time high, scored in 2008, suggest the CCI will continue to trade sideways to higher in the coming weeks, or longer. The present technical posture of the CCI suggests the raw commodity market bulls will enjoy more success in 2011. Look for the raw commodity sector leaders to be gold and crude oil. Stay tuned and happy holidays!
