February live cattle futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange on Tuesday closed sharply lower and near the session low after hitting a fresh contract and two-year high of $107.00 early in the trading session. Price action Tuesday also scored a big and bearish "key reversal" down on the daily bar chart, whereby the daily high was higher than the previous day's high, scoring a new contract high, and then prices reversed to close solidly lower and with a daily low that was below the previous trading session's low. That's one early technical clue that a near-term market top is in place for live cattle futures. Live cattle market bulls need to show fresh power soon to recover from Tuesday's near-term technical damage. Bulls' next upside price objective is to push and close February futures prices above solid technical resistance at Tuesday's contract high of $107.00. The next downside technical objective for the bears is pushing below solid technical support at $102.75, which is the bottom of a big upside price gap on the daily bar chart. First resistance is for February live cattle is seen at $105.00 and then at $105.50. First support is seen at $104.50 and then at Wednesday's low of $104.20. Stay tuned!
