June Forecast: The Commodities Strike Back

by Trade The News

Overview

Markets seesawed through the first half of May, until rising commodity prices finally caught up with equities causing a mid-month slide. As crude backed off highs above $135/bbl at the end of the month, equities found new life, ending down only fractionally for the month. Meanwhile, bond market yields rose, with the 10 year yield moving above 4%, and the USD managed to hold firm near the 1.55 level against the euro thanks to the continuing decoupling of the dollar from oil. June could see more volatility in markets as the battle between inflation and growth plays out in key earnings reports, central bank decisions and economic data.
