In the past few weeks we shared with our newsletter readers a couple of different techniques traders use for shorter term trading or day-trading. The rationale in the trading world is that the lower the time frame you are looking at, the more technical in nature your decision making should be, and the longer time frame you are looking at, the more fundamental your analysis should be.

The following article takes a look at trading from the fundamental side. Obviously a balanced approach is always a plus and trade / money management is a must.

The Agriculturalists' Tough Decision

A good client of mine who lives and operates a farm in the very productive Corn and Soybean belt recently commented that "in his back yard, a venerable and large producer (at the first possible opportunity) has been sowing soybean seeds instead of the corn that he usually does this time of year."

The implications of course of this observation can be construed as bullish for the price of "new" crop corn contract prices and bearish for "new"" crop soybean contract prices if many other decision makers arrived at the same conclusion.

What Would You Do?

There many ways to try and take advantage of a longer term market view. Some feel more at ease with long options, while others prefer to use "outright future position." There are many strategies in between. Future spreads (intra-commodity and inter commodity), combination of futures and options, advanced options spreads and much more.
