Hot Market: Crude Oil

hot market report: crude oil

November crude oil futures recently hit a fresh contract high of $83.76 a barrel. Prices then backed off sharply on some profit-taking pressure from the recent strong gains. While no serious technical damage has yet occurred to strongly suggest that a major market top is in place in the crude oil market, the recent higher volatility at higher price levels has produced a rare and potentially bearish broadening pattern on the daily bar chart. Broadening patterns usually occur at market tops and are formed by the higher volatility at higher price levels. However, the crude oil bulls are still in overall near-term technical control. The crude oil bears would gain some solid downside technical momentum by pushing and closing November crude oil futures prices below the solid technical support zone seen on the daily chart. Also, as goes the crude oil market, so will likely go many other raw commodity futures markets. Indeed, many traders in many markets are keeping a close eye on a key "outside market"--crude oil. Stay tuned!

Jim has an excellent daily newsletter where he reviews different markets, alerts you for potential trades and much more. Included is his great bi-weekly newsletter with charts and a little longer term outlook. We recommend checking out his website, educational CDROM, and services at Jim Wyckoff
